Sovereignty, Stewardship, and Resilience
Tribal nations are confronting unprecedented challenges—from shifting federal priorities and funding reductions to growing pressures on land, water, food, energy systems, and critical infrastructure. At the same time, Tribes are leading innovative approaches to strengthen sovereignty, steward natural resources, and build resilient communities.
This convening will bring together approximately 30 peer-selected Tribal leaders, youth leaders, elected officials, funders, scientists, legal experts, finance professionals, and nonprofit partners to identify practical strategies for advancing Tribal sovereignty and self-determination in these rapidly changing times.
Together, participants will examine today's political, ecological, and institutional realities and share lessons from across Tribal communities. They will identify actionable strategies that can be implemented now, such as exercising sovereign authority to protect cultural and natural resources, build local leadership, strengthen community capacity, and advance long-term resilience.
VCI convenings also intentionally create space to step away from day-to-day demands, build trusted relationships, and engage with the surrounding landscape. By combining strategic dialogue with time for reflection and connection, participants will leave with stronger partnerships, new ideas, and renewed momentum to advance Tribal sovereignty, stewardship, and resilience.
